When ordering custom-made window blinds, accurate measurements are the single most important factor. Unlike readymade off-the-shelf curtains that can bunch up with extra fabric, custom blinds are precision-cut to fit your window opening down to the exact millimeter.
Whether you want to order online using our Instant Price Calculator or book our local Bhopal measurement technician, this guide ensures your measurements are 100% error-free.
Tool Checklist: What You Need
- Steel Measuring Tape: Never use a flexible tailorโs cloth tape! Cloth tapes stretch and cause 1 to 2 inch sizing errors.
- Notepad & Pen: Always write dimensions as Width (W) ร Height (H).
- Check for Obstructions: Look for window crank handles, AC power sockets, or tile ledges that could block the fabric roll.
Step 1: Choose Your Mounting Type
Option A: Inside Mount (Inside Window Frame Casing)
The blind fits entirely within the recessed window opening for a clean, flush architectural appearance.
- Depth Check: Ensure your window casing has at least 2.5 inches (65mm) of flat recess depth for the mounting bracket.
- Measuring Width: Measure the exact width inside the casing at three places: Top, Middle, and Bottom. Record the narrowest width down to the 1/8th inch (or millimeter).
- Measuring Height: Measure from the top ceiling of the casing down to the window sill at three spots: Left, Center, and Right. Record the longest height.
- Note: Do NOT make deductions yourself! Parkerโs factory machinery automatically deducts 3mmโ5mm for smooth bracket clearance.
Option B: Outside Mount (Mounted on Wall Above Frame)
The blind mounts onto the wall surface surrounding the window opening. Best when your window recess is too shallow or you want to make small windows appear larger.
- Measuring Width: Measure the outer window opening and add 2 to 4 inches (50mmโ100mm) to both left and right sides (total +4 to +8 inches) to prevent light gaps.
- Measuring Height: Measure from where you plan to install the top brackets (at least 3 inches above the window opening) down to where you want the blind to drop (usually 2 to 3 inches below the sill).
